Resumption of work at Al-Burj Cement Factory in Zliten

Attorney General Counselor Al-Siddiq Al-Sour held a meeting today, Monday, with the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Arab Union Contracting Company, the Mayor of Zliten, and two representatives of the workers of the Al-Burj Cement Factory.

According to the Attorney General’s Office, Counselor Al-Sour began the meeting by pointing out the importance of the cement industry from the economic and social perspectives, the effects of the suspension of the Burj factory’s activity on the design capacity of the industry in the country, and the reasons for coordinating a mechanism that ensures a balance between the rights of the factory workers and the regularity of construction and building in the country.

The Attorney General added that administrative treatments require the Audit Bureau to monitor the factory operator’s compliance with the rules governing work, and to define obligations and duties by preparing a report that includes what guarantees the rights of workers and ensures the interests of the company.

For his part, the Mayor of Zliten stressed the necessity of the company fulfilling its obligations towards local development; applying the principles of governance, especially directing the mechanisms for organizing relations between the administrative divisions within the factory, revealing and withdrawing invalid decisions, ensuring the right to equality among consumers, and adhering to the rules governing priority of benefiting from the product.

For his part, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the company answered the questions of the workers’ representatives and then reviewed the vision of the Board of Directors during the next stage.

The meeting concluded with the issuance of a document that included an agreement between the workers’ representatives, the municipality official, and the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Arab Union Contracting Company to fulfill the legitimate demands of the factory workers and resume the work of the Burj factory starting tomorrow, Tuesday.

It is noteworthy that Al-Burj Cement Factory entered the production phase at the end of 2005 AD. The factory’s production capacity is estimated at (1,400,000 tons) annually. The factory operates on heavy fuel oil and can also be operated on natural gas.

The site of the tower factory was chosen in the city of Zliten, close to the quarries in the Majer Mahalla Mudawara area, with a total area of ​​(84) hectares, where the area of ​​the first line is (59) hectares.
