The fall was driven by the lower dynamism recorded in sales through the Internet, catalogues and television (-9.9%) and in self-service and department stores (-0.9%). However, this decrease was partially offset by the increase in sales of groceries, food, beverages, ice and tobacco (2.7%) and vehicles and spare parts
(0.6%), reviewed Valmex.

At an annual rate, the biggest falls were observed in sales via the Internet, catalogues and television (-9.9%) and in self-service and department stores (-7.5%). Meanwhile, sales of groceries, food, beverages, ice and tobacco (4.4%) and vehicles and spare parts (2.2%) continued to show dynamism.

Victor Cejaeconomist at Head of Valmexexplained that the decrease recorded in sales in self-service stores, department stores and through the Internet shows moderation in spending by consumers.

“Going forward, high inflation and tight monetary policy could lead to lower dynamism. However, a compensating factor for retail sales will be the strength of the labor market, high wages and the resumption of payments for social programs.”
