SAO PAULO (Reuters) – National retail sales last month rose 1.2% in deflated terms over March 2022, according to data released this Friday by payment means company Cielo.

The ICVA indicator for March pointed to a nominal growth of 7.3% in sales for the period.

By sectors, sales of services shrank by 2.6% excluding inflation, while durable goods fell by 6.2%, with highlights for retreats in construction materials and clothing. Nondurable goods posted a 6.7% rise in deflated sales in March over a year earlier.

“The Drugstores and Pharmacies segment was one of the most important. We believe that there was an anticipation of purchases in March due to the increase in prices expected for April”, said Cielo’s vice-president of products and technology, Carlos Alves, in communicated.

ICVA is calculated monthly based on sales data from 1.1 million retailers accredited to Cielo.
