Announcer Hwang Jung-min, who is leaving the company after 31 years due to special retirement caused by KBS’s financial difficulties, shed tears during his last live broadcast.

On the afternoon of the 29th, announcer Hwang hosted a live broadcast of KBS Radio’s ‘Hwang Jung-min’s Music Show’. This broadcast was his last live broadcast since he is leaving the company on the 31st. ‘Hwang Jung-min’s Music Show’ will end on the 1st of next month after the recorded weekend broadcast.

Announcer Hwang said on the air, “Sometimes I look at my hands and think, ‘My hands are really short,’ ‘They’re not pretty,’ ‘They wouldn’t look good even if I wore a ring,’ and ‘They look like they have a lot of work clothes. ’” She continued, “I actually had a lot of work and worked hard. But it wasn’t just work clothes. What brought me to where I am today were the really great people I met through work. It was good luck.”

He continued, “I thought and thought about what kind of great words I should say on the last live broadcast today, and this was exactly what I had in mind,” and added, “I was so happy and joyful to be able to meet and talk with so many listeners every day. The royal family (listeners’ nickname) were the greatest blessing to me,” expressing his gratitude.

He shed tears as he said, “I hope everyone who watched my broadcast remembers me as a joyful and happy person.”

On that day’s broadcast, the children left voice letters for announcer Hwang, who is about to retire.

Announcer Hwang’s daughter said, “I heard today is the last day, but I remember going on ‘Music Show’ and doing a quiz before. It was new, exciting, and happy to hear my mom do radio, so I wonder how she feels now that she’s said this is the last day.” She left a message saying, “You’ve worked hard on the show for 30 years, so do your best until the end. Do everything you couldn’t do while you were on the air.” Her son also said, “You’ve worked hard on the show, do your best until the end. I’ll see you later at home.”

After hearing the children’s message, announcer Hwang shed tears again.

Announcer Hwang joined KBS in 1993 as the 19th open recruitment announcer and hosted various programs such as news programs, ‘VJ Special Forces’, and ‘Challenge! Earth Explorers’. He hosted KBS Radio’s ‘Hwang Jung-min’s FM March’ for 19 years from 1998 to 2017, but stepped down due to childcare leave. After about 3 years, he has been hosting ‘Hwang Jung-min’s Music Show’ since 2020.

KBS has been accepting applications for special retirement and voluntary retirement from its executives and employees since last month due to the separate collection of TV license fees and continued deficits.

With this special retirement application, announcer Hwang will end her 31-year career at KBS.
