Retired Judge Becomes Bangladesh’s New President

Dhaka: Retired Justice Mohammad Sakhabuddin Subbu is confirmed as the new President of Bangladesh. Bangladesh President Mohammad Abdul Hamid’s tenure ends on April 24. Subsequently, Mohammad Sakhabuddin Subbu has been nominated by the ruling Awami League as the candidate for the post of president. A retired District Judge, he has served as a member of the Anti-Corruption Commission. After retirement he joined the ruling party Awami League. He was given a seat on the party’s advisory board. The Election Commission of the country has announced that the Awami League has submitted its nomination for Mohammad Sakhabuddin. The ruling party has 305 of the total 350 MPs in Parliament. Opposition parties did not field the candidate. Thus, it is certain that Sakhabuddin will win the presidential election with the support of the majority of MPs.
