This misleading image is based on an idealized projection that goes back a long way and also has its origins in old photographs.
An illustrated book now brings together the vintage photographs from the country between mountains and the Mediterranean Sea, between South Tyrol and Sicily. With the picture book “Italy 1900. A Portrait in Color” from Taschen, which has already published numerous retro photo books on popular travel destinations, takes us back in time to 120 years.
The book weighs heavily: 3.5 kilograms
On 580 pages, mostly large-format photochromes are reproduced, which were subsequently hand-colored a long time ago. The trilingual edition edited by Sabine Arqué, Giovanni Fanelli and Marc Walter takes us back to the origins of the photographic image of Italy.
When leafing through and delving deeper into this work, which is divided into eight geographical regions, we come to the amazing realization that many of the motifs of the time are still among the tourist attractions today, which arouse in us the desire to travel to Italy in the near future.
