Much has been said about Ron Gilbert’s return to Monkey Island and his new artistic approach. What he himself called the “Manhattan Project of Video Games” showed off its first gameplay during the Nintendo Direct Mini, which you can see below, and it certainly wiped out any doubts about this new vision for this new installment of the classic Monkey Island. We’ve seen some more endearing characters return to the series, including the chef, skeleton Murray, the three pirate captains, the ever-powerful LeChuck, and of course, Guybrush Threepwood himself, who stars in the game.
Nintendo also announced that the Switch will be the first console in its arsenal to have Return to Monkey Island, as it will be a temporary exclusive to the console and will release this year, though it didn’t specify when. The PC version will be released at the same time, while the Xbox and PlayStation versions will be released later in 2023.
