‘Return to Raqqa’the moving documentary that explains the kidnapping, captivity and subsequent release that the war correspondent of EL PERIÓDICO Marc Marginedas lived by Islamic state a Syria between 2013 and 2014 he won the prize for the best documentary in the Panorama section at the DOCS Valencia competition.

The film, directed by Albert Solé and Raúl Cuevas, explains the return, a decade after the events, of the prestigious journalist to the place where he was kidnapped. A captivity that lasted for six months and which the filmmakers condense into 78 intense and exciting minutes in a story full of their own memories, the testimony of some of their fellow prisoners who experienced the same fatal trance, and the contributions of family, friends and writing colleagues who had to manage a situation that, although they are aware of the risk that in this profession such situations can occur, they are never easy to take personally and emotionally.

In ‘Return to Raqqa’, Marginedas recalls the personal hell that he and all the comrades who were deprived of their freedom experienced, crowded together in terrible conditions and suffering the torture and sadism of the kidnappers before most of them were released, all and that not everyone had the same luck. This cruel punishment ended fatally with the murder of several of the abductees, as was the case of the journalists James Foley, Alan Henning, Peter Kassig, David Haines, Kayla Mueller, Serguei Gorbunov and Steven Sotloff.
