Family from Gaza finally returns to Sweden after weeks of uncertainty
After several weeks in Gaza, the Altatari family has finally received word that they would be allowed to come home to Sweden. On Wednesday afternoon, they landed in Landvetter.

Saed Altatari, who was supposed to visit his family in Gaza but never got to see them before the war broke out and his family was killed, has been waiting anxiously for their return. At the airport to meet the family was Wael Altatari, brother of Saed’s wife. For him, the last few weeks have been terrible.

“It’s impossible to describe. You sit and watch the news all the time and hear from relatives about dead bodies everywhere,” says Wael Altatari.

Even though Saed’s family is now back in Gothenburg, according to Wael, they will not be able to relax yet, as there are other family members still in Gaza.

“It is great that my sister and her family came out, but at the same time it is not this joy when you know that my mother and my other siblings are still there,” he says.

Both Saed and Wael criticize the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stating that they were neither at the embassy in Egypt nor at the airport and have been difficult to reach in recent weeks.

“They have treated us badly. I am disappointed that it has taken until now to get home,” says Saed Altatari.

SVT is looking for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for comment.
