Mumbai: A 57-year-old man has beaten his girlfriend to death with a hammer in anger over his daughter’s marriage. Bimal Khanna, 70, of Wadala in Maharashtra, was killed by his girlfriend Shanti Pal, 70. They were arrested by the police.
The murder took place at his home in Wadala last Tuesday. Bimal Khanna and his girlfriend Shanti Pal have been living together for years. Bimal Khanna recently married the daughter of Shantipal’s first marriage. According to the police, the resentment led to the murder.
When Bimal Khanna reached home on Tuesday, the two had a quarrel over the same. Shantipal alleged that Bimal had ruined his daughter’s life. During the fight, the 70-year-old man hit his boyfriend on the head with a hammer. Bimal Khanna, who had earlier sought treatment for a stroke, lost consciousness after the attack. The next day, Shantipal rushed Bimal Khanna to the hospital but he died on the spot.
She told doctors she was injured in the crash. Suspicious doctors informed the police. Post-mortem was then performed. Shantipal was questioned by the police after the post-mortem report found that the cause of death was an injury sustained in the attack. With this, they admitted that the incident was a murder and that Bimal Khanna was hit on the head with a hammer.
Shantipal and his daughter, originally from Punjab, came to Mumbai after the 1984 Sikh riots. They were taken care of by Bimal Khanna, whom they met then. The two then lived together. Although not legally married, Shantipal has a daughter with Bimal Khanna. Meanwhile, Bimal Khanna married Shantipal’s first daughter.
