The Russian military today (Monday) launched a massive barrage of cruise missiles at civilian targets across Ukraine, the country’s media reported, after large parts of the capital Kyiv suffered power outages and loud explosions were heard throughout the city.

According to media in the country, at least 70 Iranian-made cruise missiles and drones were fired at the territory of Ukraine, after a few days in which the amount of Russian fire at civilian targets decreased. The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense issued a statement stating that at least 40 of the missiles and drones were intercepted by the defense Ukrainian Air Force.

The spokesman for the Ukrainian Air Force, Yuri Ihant, said that the Russian Air Force carried out a “massive” cruise missile attack using its strategic bomber fleet, which launched the missiles from Russian territory, without entering Ukrainian airspace. President Zelensky’s chief of staff, Andriy Yermak, said:

“The Russian losers continue to wage war against peaceful objects.”

According to the Mayor of Kyiv, Vitaly Kalischenko, the water supply was cut off to 350,000 homes as a result of Russian damage to the infrastructure.

“Our engineers are working as quickly as possible to restore the flow of drinking water to the entire population of Kyiv,”

the mayor said in a statement.

About two days ago, Ukraine carried out an air and sea attack on the Russian naval base in Sevastopol on the Crimean peninsula. In the raid, which was carried out in an integrated manner by unmanned aircraft as well as unmanned vessels, at least one vessel of the Russian Navy was damaged, and according to some reports also the flagship of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, the “Admiral Makarob”.
