The highly anticipated 2023 BMW S1000RR made its debut at Chang Stadium with the opportunity to compete with Superbikes on the BRIC Trackday track day. This superbike, designed as a step closer to the M1000RR, has undergone a complete redesign.

One of the standout features of the 2023 S1000RR is the M Winglet set installed at the front, which increases downforce up to 17.6 kg @300kmph. This helps prevent the front wheels from floating when accelerating at high speeds. The windshield has been raised higher, resembling the M1000RR, resulting in a more stable and less shaky helmet.

The buttocks of the bike have been noticeably slimmed down, creating a more agile and slender look. Other notable changes include the addition of a Li-ion battery that saves 2 kg and a smaller rear license plate, giving the bike a sportier feel. The TFT screen gauge has been upgraded to a 6.5″ display with a new interface that provides more comprehensive technology details. The Race screen now shows lean angle results, braking percentage, and TC operation.

The 2023 S1000RR features a new swing arm set that increases the wheelbase by 16 mm. The front tire is a size 120, while the rear is a size 190. If M wheels are added, the rear tire size increases to 200. The approximate dimensions of the bike include a kerb weight of 197 kg, which decreases to 193.5 kg with the M Package. The seat height is 832 mm, an increase of 8 mm, and the fuel tank has a capacity of 16.5 liters.

In terms of performance, the 2023 S1000RR is equipped with a 4-cylinder, 999cc engine cooled by water and oil. It has a Shiftcam variable valve system and titanium valves. With enhancements taken from the M RR, the bike now boasts an increased horsepower of 210 Hp @ 13,750rpm and torque of 113 Nm @ 11,000rpm, bringing it one step closer to the M1000RR. The rear sprocket has been increased to 46 teeth from the original 45, resulting in a slightly decreased Top Speed of 303 kmph.

During a test ride, it was found that riding in Rain Mode was sufficient for normal road conditions, as it still provides a significant amount of power at 160 hp. When switched to Race Mode on the track, the bike’s power was described as very strong, with the Shiftcam kicking in around 10,000rpm. The gears were smooth and easy to shift, with no stiffness or gear problems encountered.

In terms of fuel consumption, the bike averaged around 8-10 liters per session on the track. The suspension system, featuring the M Chassis Kit and an electric suspension, allowed for adjustments to suit different riding conditions, with Race mode found to be the most suitable during the test ride.

The bike’s braking system includes dual 320 mm front discs and BMW 4-pot calipers, along with ABS Pro and Cornering ABS. The response to the brakes was described as gripping very well, making it necessary to be cautious not to get stuck.

Overall, the 2023 BMW S1000RR proved to be a highly capable and well-designed superbike, with improvements in design, performance, and handling. Motorcycle enthusiasts can look forward to experiencing the thrill of riding this impressive machine on both the road and the track.
