Review: Logitech G Aurora – gaming accessories for those looking for something non-standard

by time news

Logitech recently launched a new sub-brand of accessories designed for gamers. This time she is trying to capture the attention, and the pockets, of young actors, and in particular actresses. The collection she launched under the name Aurora includes the G713 and G715 wireless keyboards, the G705 mouse and the G735 headphones – all equipped with technologies known in the field, but with a lot of color and especially with a lot of investment in design that tries to show something different, not quite standard.

The keyboards: G713/G715

The most important product in the gamer’s war tool kit is the keyboard. Well, the mouse is also important, but a keyboard should be a little better and special for gamers who spend many hours playing games. G713 and G715 are two identical keyboards only the G715 offers a wireless connection.

This is a keyboard that is 80% the size of a normal keyboard, a structure that has been nicknamed TKL, which means that there is a numeric keypad on the right side. The result is a smaller and more comfortable keyboard to use in games. However, this is still a full-layout keyboard, i.e. standard size keys and with a full normal height profile.

The keyboard is white and comes with a nice bonus in the kit – a resting surface next to a soft sponge in a matching color, designed in the style of clouds. Befitting a style intended for young people, it also allows the replacement of the entire upper surface for a different color. Tired of white? No problem – just lift the magnetic surface and replace it with pink or green – or even paint it, but you didn’t read that here.

Beyond its compact size, this is a mechanical keyboard in every sense. It is heavier than a normal keyboard and offers the user one of three types of switches: Tactile Quiet, Linear and Clicky, just like the keys on the MX Keys keyboard I recently tested. The keys, 84 in number, provide strong or sensitive feedback depending on the selected switch and are fully backlit, and to my surprise this includes the engraving in Hebrew.

There are several additional buttons such as media control, a large and wide wheel to change the volume, a quick button to activate the gaming mode on the computer, a button to change the brightness of the backlight, and in combination with the number keys you can also choose the animation. There is also a button to switch between using Bluetooth connectivity or a Lightspeed USB dongle.

Besides the illuminated keys, the G715/G713 keyboard also has soft peripheral lighting that adds a sort of ambient aura to the desktop. Of course, it can be adjusted and changed with the company’s G HUB software, when it synchronizes with the other products in this collection and in general with any product that supports Loghtsync of the company.

Mouse: G705

Among the products in the Aurora series, the mouse G705 does not really look like a mouse that comes from the field of games. It is offered in colors that match the keyboard, and its dimensions are relatively small as it is not suitable for right-handed users nor for those with large hands. It does not excel in a large number of buttons and it presents a minimalistic, simple and very basic look – but comfortable to use over time.

What makes the G705 particularly comfortable is its weight of 85 grams, but also its structure and in particular a thumb socket that helps to place it in the right place. Together with the main buttons that stand out slightly from the body of the mouse, with a smooth finish and pleasant to the touch, it turns out that the use is quite comfortable. There are two side buttons on the left and a button to control the cursor speed (DPI) as well as a wheel of the type of the simple mice, which is a bit of a shame: an upgrade to a slightly better wheel could have raised the mouse to a better level.

The G705 is a wireless mouse and it works with the Lightspeed technology which guarantees an extremely low latency time. It allows you to operate via Bluetooth connectivity or via a USB dongle, the same one you use for the keyboard, so whoever purchases the kit can be satisfied with a single dongle, which is nice. The dongle can be hidden under the upper plastic cover when carrying the mouse from place to place.

Like the keyboard, the G705 has a soft colored backlight that is not very noticeable and is located around the back. It allows adjusting and changing the animation easily and simply through the G HUB software. The software also allows changing buttons, creating a customized macro, and saving the mouse settings in its built-in memory.

The battery inside guarantees up to 40 hours of continuous use, which is not very much, but it allows charging with a USB-C connection so that you can continue to work with the cable connected.

The headphones: G735

The G735 headphones continue the line of the rest of the Aurora series products: a minimalist design that does not highlight the fact that these are gamer headphones. They also come in white color next to subtle colored lighting, while the ears and the bow wrap cushions with a leather-like finish and matching color. The pillows are nice and very soft and comfortable to use for a long time, but it also depends on how hot the room is as I very quickly found myself taking them down to freshen up.

The finish is excellent, with the bow ending in a metal arm while the plastic is of good quality. They are also flexible and allow height adjustment by pulling each of the headphones. Their size is slightly smaller than average, and they will suit the younger and older users alike.

G735 headphones have quite a few connection options. First, it is the wireless Lightspeed connectivity to the computer via a USB dongle, and the other is Bluetooth connectivity, which allows the use of headphones on a computer or phone at the same time. There is also a 3.5 mm standard analog input so you can use them even when there is no battery and this with a direct connection cable.

On the wall around the headphones there are several buttons such as power off/on, selecting an audio source, a wheel for changing the volume, muting the microphone, and also a pair of A/B buttons. These make it possible to listen to two audio sources at the same time – when connected to an external source via a cable or to quickly switch to an audio source via Bluetooth.

Inside there is a pair of 40mm drivers with support for Dolby Atmos and Windows Sonic 360 surround sound. The ‘Madonna’ microphone is made of a flexible-rigid cable that allows its position to be adjusted, and when not in use it can be pulled out. It also supports -Blue VO!CE, a software plugin that makes it possible to highlight the vocal sounds and add effects.

On the software side, the G735 has a lot to offer. Besides a full equalizer with profiles, you can adjust the lighting, choose operating modes and effects, battery saving modes and more. In addition, the Blue VO!CE microphone settings allow you to change the vocal equalizer settings, choose from preset patterns of voice filters to change or amplify the voice or make the user’s own voice sound clearer. There are also quite a few fun voice filters that can be applied, such as aliens, robots, phones and many more.

In terms of audio quality, there is definitely a significant jump compared to the G435 headphones I reviewed here before. Despite the great similarity externally, the bass is much more noticeable and the sounds are more precise and clear. Regarding the microphone, there is an advantage that it is closer to the mouth and I sounded clear and clear to the other side.

The battery is enough for up to 16 hours of work, but when the RGB lighting is off, the figure already jumps to 56 hours, which is a good enough reason to turn off the lighting.

The bottom line

The Logitech Aurora series is designed to present something a little different in the gamer market with an emphasis on suitability for everyone. It mainly comes down to the white color and slightly less prominent RGB lighting, and when you look at the products themselves the innovations are not great.

What they all have in common are the customization and personal design options as well as the diverse connectivity suitable for contemporary needs. The keyboard is high quality and very comfortable, especially for those who play games and don’t need the number buttons. Although the mouse is basic without special buttons, it is lightweight and has good performance. The headphones are perhaps the most advanced when they offer a host of features and the technology of Blue VO!CE.

However, the prices are not really for every gamer: the wired keyboard G713 will cost 749 shekels, the wireless G715 will cost 899 shekels, the mouse G705 will cost 499 shekels and the headphones G735 are sold for 899 shekels.
