During the test of Xiaomi’s new vacuum cleaner, model S10T Xiaomi Robot Vacuum, we identified main features that we liked and also a few features that we didn’t like:
The external design of the vacuum cleaner is modern and you can say that the product is beautiful in itself.
The vacuum cleaner’s navigation abilities are efficient and indeed it knows how to avoid colliding with obstacles that stand in its way. It detects, surrounds them and clings to it for maximum cleaning as much as possible.
The physical height of the vacuum cleaner is low enough to allow it to go under furniture such as sofas, tables, chairs and beds (as long as the furniture is placed on legs 12 cm or more), the same goes for the plinth under the kitchen cabinets for example.
The cleaning route in the area where the vacuum cleaner was tested does not exceed 100 square meters, so there was no need for continuous work for two hours as promised by the manufacturer. Its work route lasted about an hour for me at most.
The new Xiaomi vacuum cleaner knows how to return to the charging position by itself (which is also the docking station) and it is charged independently as needed while working. At the end of charging, it knows how to return to work from the same point where it stopped. When the operation is finished, it returns to the same docking position.
During vacuuming, it knows how to identify different surfaces to clean and adapts itself to vacuuming or vacuuming + washing depending on the surface (parquet/floor/carpet), which ensures that the carpets do not remain wet at the end of the operation. Beyond the function of suction or suction + washing, it also adjusts the suction power to the area it is standing on, I recognized that upon stepping on the carpet, the suction power strengthened by itself without the need for human intervention. This can also be heard in the intensity of the noise produced during the operation.
Obstacles he recognized and managed to climb were the entrance threshold to the MMD, a bathroom rug, a kitchen rug, a living room rug, and an aluminum rail (exit to the balcony).
Operating the new S10T Xiaomi Robot Vacuum was convenient and easy and allowed full control through the Mi Home app even for those who are not oriented towards using advanced technologies. The range of possibilities for control is not particularly large, but allows those who want to go deeper, to use capabilities such as: planning a fixed weekly schedule of the vacuum cleaner for work, the suction power, the amount of water to be used during the washing operation, etc.
It helps me a lot, for example, that I have defined in advance the fixed days and the exact hours that I want him to go to work (I have defined the days when I work outside the home and a time when I am not present. This way I always come back to a clean house). At the same time, it is important to understand that he does not do everything himself and in order for the cleanliness to be maximal, one must “prepare the house for washing”, that is, pick up chairs, bins, rugs, cables of electrical appliances and other obstacles that may interfere with the action of the aspirant and even cause him to get into trouble with them.
Another convenient function that the applet allows is the ability to select the areas we want to clean in real time. For example, after hosting the family for dinner on Friday, I prepared the house as I mentioned before, turned on the public area (without the rooms) and went to bed. The vacuum did the job in the dirty area without disturbing me. A closed door in the bedroom was like a buffer to the intensity of the tolerable noise.
Using the applet, we can choose not only the desired area but also the cleaning method (pumping only, washing only or both) as well as the suction power, the amount of water required for cleaning, etc.
When I referred to the efficiency, it can be concluded that it enables all the functions that the operator needs to enjoy a ‘housekeeper’ who does the work for us, but when we talk about the quality of the cleaning, I have something to make a reservation…
After the simultaneous pumping and washing, the house looks clean and without signs of washing, but it should be emphasized that it does not manage to clean more difficult stains (such as sauce that has been spilled and dried, for example) and that it does not excel at cleaning the corners. In addition, he had slight misses during pumping as well, but not ones that justify a feeling of disappointment.
The robotic vacuum cleaner is equipped with a water tank that performs a water release operation in a measured manner without leaks, and supports three levels of water flow control, but the amount of water produced during pumping is not always sufficient for thorough cleaning and if you increase the amount of water in the application, the built-in tank is not enough for the cleaning area and needs to be refilled during the operation.
