In a Foundation address on the occasion of the 71st anniversary of the Revolution of the King and the People, Mr. Zerktouni stressed that “the revolution of the King and the People marks the collective return to armed struggle and the establishment of the necessary conditions for the success of the resistance, which quickly spread throughout the country, transforming into a force unleashed against colonial injustice and its designs targeting the sacred symbols of the nation.”

The forced exile of Sultan Mohammed Ben Youssef, on August 20, 1953, consolidated the foundations of unity between the monarchy and the people, by uniting them in a common struggle according to a shared vision, said Abdelkrim Zerktouni, noting that the national struggle demonstrated an exceptional symbiosis between a national Royal Institution, faithful to its cause, and the armed resistance organizations which made the person of Sultan Mohammed Ben Youssef a unifying symbol.

And to emphasize: “The strength of the unity and the close link between the sacredness of the bonds of loyalty to the Royal Institution and the legitimacy of demanding the departure of colonialism was one of the striking specificities of the Moroccan liberation struggle, thus shaping our unique struggle identity and our action at the regional and international levels.”

This year, said the son of the martyr Mohamed Zerktouni, “we are celebrating the anniversary of the Revolution of the King and the People, at a time when our country is experiencing a revitalization and bold transformations, thanks to the pioneering projects launched under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.

Among the most proud achievements are the diplomatic successes achieved in favor of the territorial integrity of the Kingdom, in addition to the economic and human development programs and the structuring infrastructures carried out in the southern provinces.

This great success in managing the issue of the territorial integrity of the Kingdom is linked to two factors: the strength and consistency of the actions and initiatives carried out by the Sovereign on the one hand, and the solidity of the national consensus on this issue on the other hand, which factors come from the lessons learned from the glorious Revolution of the King and the People, he stressed.

Mr. Zerktouni concluded that the Revolution of the King and the People was no longer a simple event of the past, but had transformed into a renewed and eternal path, of defense of the constants of this great homeland.
