Already last Thursday, at the meeting of the Rēzekne council, the temporary administration of the municipality made a decision on the expropriation and sale of one capital part of SIA “Olimpiskais centrs Rēzekne” to LOK. On Monday, the LOK Executive Committee also considered the same issue, unanimously approving the purchase of the capital share.
“With this decision, all Olympic centers in Latvia are gathered into one common system. It will be an opportunity to centrally develop the implementation of the Olympic programs and promote sports activities in the specific regions and throughout Latvia as a whole. We also hope for further successful cooperation both with the Rēzekne municipality and the Olympic Center Rēzekne, “comments LOK president Raimonds Lazdiņš.
Guna Pūce, head of the temporary administration of the municipality of Rēzekne: “The signing of the contract is an important event not only for Rēzekne, but at least for the entire Latgale region. We are happy that the Rēzekne Olympic Center is becoming a full-fledged member of the big Latvian Olympic family, which will provide new opportunities, additional funding and attract large-scale events to Rēzekne. Thank you to the Latvian Olympic Committee for welcoming us, for new ideas and cooperation. The signing of the contract culminates a great work that was started in 2020, and now a new phase begins – maybe difficult, but very sporty, challenging and bright!”
Until now, LOK was the owner of capital shares in eight Olympic Centers, and with this decision, the total number of Olympic Centers represented by LOK will increase to nine. The Rimi Olympic Center in Riga is fully owned by LOK, while the capital shares in the other centers – Ventspils, Liepāja, Valmiera, Jelgava, Cēsis, Limbaži and Daugavpils – are owned by LOK together with the respective municipalities.
