The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) registered on Tuesday, March 8, two appeals of the Russian Football Union (RFU) against the decisions of the International Football Federation (FIFA) and the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) to remove all Russian teams and clubs from competitions.

The press service of CAS states that in its appeals, the RFU asks to cancel the decisions made by FIFA and UEFA at the end of February, and to restore all Russian national teams and clubs as participants in competitions under the auspices of these organizations, as well as to suspend the implementation of the contested decisions.

In accordance with the Code of Arbitration for Sport, CAS has initiated two separate arbitration proceedings during which it will ascertain the position of the respondent parties, the press release notes.

On February 28, FIFA and UEFA made a joint decision to remove Russian teams and clubs from participating in competitions under their auspices in response to the invasion of Russian troops in Ukraine.
