It is already the third billion-dollar deal in a short period of time: Rheinmetall is likely to receive the next major order, it is even the largest in the company’s history.
The arms company Rheinmetall is apparently facing the largest order in its company history. The Italian government apparently wants to order 200 Panther battle tanks and 350 Lynx infantry fighting vehicles, reports the “Handelsblatt”. The order is said to have a total volume of around 20 billion euros.
Since it is common practice for arms contracts to produce part of the volume in the ordering country, the German company is likely to enter into a cooperation with the Italian arms company Leonardo, according to the “Handelsblatt”.
Italy had apparently already concluded another agreement. The arms company KNDS was supposed to supply Leopard 2 tanks. But because the company wanted to produce them primarily in Germany, the deal apparently fell through.
This is the third billion-dollar deal for Rheinmetall within a matter of weeks. In June, the German army initially bought ammunition for 8.5 billion euros, and then ordered trucks for around 3.5 billion euros a few days ago.
