The countdown to the 9th Rhodes Marathon scheduled for Sunday, April 21 has begun.
As “dspor” wrote, on Thursday the last press conference was held ahead of the event, where the president of the Organizing Committee Marieta Papavasileiou, the mayor of Rhodes Alexandros Koliadis, the authorized Sports Councilor of the Region Akis Delaportas, the president of the Association of Hoteliers of Rhodes Yiannis spoke Papavasileiou, the vice-president of EBED Giorgos Antonoglou and the technical director of the match Nikos Polias.
“dsport” has already presented what was reported by those present, in addition to the statements of Nikos Polias, who reported the following:
“We are ready to welcome runners from abroad and the five continents, 57 countries and 717 from abroad which is a record number and ranks us in the 2nd position of Marathons in Greece in terms of attendance. Even in Thessaloniki there is no such number from abroad. Specifically, I will mention that from Great Britain we will have 176 runners, from Poland 60, France 97, Turkey 49, the USA 41, the Netherlands 29, Slovakia 20, Ireland 17 and Estonia 16. The number is important and if you look at it as a whole, the work that has been done in terms of media and social networking promotion is professional and targeted, for that I want to give my congratulations.
It is also very important the number of children who are the future and will live these intense experiences so that as active citizens they can embrace sports. We’re not just about massiveness, that’s why we’ve secured the presence of a Kenyan 2.09 runner, Moses Kiptoo Kurgat, for a new course record. His opponent will be last year’s British winner Tom Charles who wants to improve his time and with them Giorgos Mino, an excellent Greek marathoner. Panagiotis Karaiskos, winner of the Athens Marathon, will participate in the 10 km. and will give the event the reach it deserves. It is important that the Organizing Committee not only tries to complete the race, but also to constantly improve it. On Sunday we will have an amazing race and it will be the harbinger of the anniversary event, so that it can achieve an even higher position in Greece and abroad”.
-For the part of the route with the works in the port.
Based on what is known, after the work there, runners will be allowed to run without a problem, although the road will not be in the best possible condition. After all, this image does not suit Rhodes, as Alexandros Koliadis mentioned because we are talking about an important fight and the project must be completed because the citizens have suffered. Marieta Papavasileiou stated that the contractor Mr. Mitsopoulos will speed up the procedures and promised that one side will be ready and will be straight so as not to make it difficult for the runners.
