Rhône: a building partially collapses in Chaponost

by time news

A building largely collapsed this Wednesday morning in the Rhône department. The event occurred in the town of Chaponost, in the southwestern suburbs of Lyon, reports Radio Scoop.

Firefighters arrived at the scene shortly before 7 a.m. Four people were evacuated. About 50 rescuers and 20 vehicles rushed to the scene. A security perimeter has been set up. The building is located rue Chapard, and it is advisable to avoid the area.

Initial information initially reported a wanted person. Contacted by the Parisian, the mayor, Damien Combet, explains that a doubt has emerged concerning a resident of the building. But “it turned out that this person is on the move. No one is missing or wanted”.

Regarding the cause of the collapse, it would be an adobe wall that would have given way. A construction site is taking place near the building concerned. “Investigations are underway,” said the elected official to find out if he may have caused the collapse or if the cause lies elsewhere. No track is privileged for the moment. This collapse comes a few days after two buildings collapsed in Lille (Nord), killing one person.
