jpnn.comROKAN HILIR – The Riau Regional Office (Kanwil) of Customs and Excise held an Operation to Crush Illegal Cigarettes in the Riau and West Sumatra (Sumbar) Provinces.

In the operation held on Wednesday (17/7), Riau Customs secured approximately 2 million illegal cigarettes in Rokan Hilir (Rohil) Regency.

Head of Riau Customs and Excise Office Agus Yulianto revealed the chronology of the action began with the receipt of information from the public stating that there would be a truck transporting illegal cigarettes across the Trans-Sumatra Highway, Rohil Regency.

Agus said the illegal cigarettes were planned to be distributed to the Riau and West Sumatra provinces.

“The perpetrators are known to have carried out smuggling activities at night to avoid inspection by officers,” said Agus.

On Wednesday (17/7) early morning, officers found the truck and conducted further inspections at the scene.

Based on the results of the inspection, there were approximately 2 million illegal cigarettes with the ‘Camclar’ brand without excise stamps, which caused state losses of up to IDR 1.8 billion.

In the operation which was held simultaneously nationally, the Riau Customs and Excise Regional Office also coordinated with the Directorate of Customs and Excise Enforcement and Investigation and other law enforcement officers to create a conducive situation in the field.

The Riau Customs Office team moved early Wednesday morning to secure a truck carrying 2 million illegal cigarettes that were to be distributed in the Riau and West Sumatra regions.
