Richard Carapaz left Itzulia due to an allergy – International Cycling

by time news

The Ecuadorian cyclist withdrew during the fifth stage suffering from an allergy, as confirmed by his sports director Juan Manuel Gárate to Radio Euskadi. Thus, the EF leader hopes to overcome this setback to resume his competitive activity as normal.

Carapaz’s sensations in the Basque Country were less, finding himself unable to make a difference with his movements beyond his will. The day before he had the debacle -probably caused by discomfort- and gave up 3’26”, saying goodbye to the general classification. Despite this, there is nothing to worry about, knowing that he is not usually in his best shape in these preparation tests.

His next stop should be the Amstel Gold Race, which will take place next Sunday. In his program he is not completely doing the Ardennes triptych, since he will evade Fleche-Walloon but not Liège-Bastogne-Liège. That will mark the end of this first competition cycle with which he will refine his form for the Tour de France, the great objective of the season.
