Good news from Switzerland with the spectacular victory of Richard Carapaz (EF Education) in the “queen stage” of the Tour de Romandie.
With a time of 4h06:03, Carapaz crossed the finish line in first place, beating the German Florian Lipowitz (second) and the Spaniard Carlos Rodríguez (third) in the final meters, who rose to the lead of the general classification.
The “Locomotora del Carchi” attacked 3 kilometres from the finish line, winning a stage of a World Tour race again after almost a year without triumphing in Europe. Richard Carapaz climbed to seventh place in the general classification, 49 seconds behind the leader (Rodríguez).
Carapaz is slowly beginning to regain his sporting level and rhythm, leaving very good feelings for future races, such as the 2024 Tour de France, which will take place from June 29.
The 2024 Tour de Romandie will culminate tomorrow with the fifth and final stage, a mid-mountain stage with the finish line in the town of Vernier (150.8 km).
