LE SCAN SPORTThe former captain of the All Blacks was in Westminster this Saturday to attend the coronation of Charles III.

Among the few hundred guests at the coronation of Charles III at Westminster Abbey on Saturday morning was an all-black rugby legend, RIchie McCaw. The former third line wing, winner of the 2011 and 2015 World Cup, was part of a New Zealand delegation of eighteen people.

In 2015, the All Blacks legend was decorated with New Zealand’s highest honour, which recognizes the country’s ‘most respected people’, on his 35th birthday. McCaw, who had said he was not comfortable calling himself “Sir Richie”, eventually skipped the rank of knighthood to earn the Order of New Zealand.

The Order of New Zealand, the country’s highest award, does not confer a particular title but is intended for people who have rendered “outstanding service” to the nation. Only 20 living personalities can hold this distinction at the same time.
