Dubai: Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting believes that India’s fast bowling attack leader Jasprit Bumrah is the best bowler in the last five or six years. Ponting said that there may be some concerns about Bumrah’s long-term play, but he has always made a strong comeback after recovering from injuries. Ponting said on ‘ICC Review’, ‘I have been saying this for a long time that he is probably the best bowler in world cricket for the last five or six years, playing in many formats.’
He said, ‘A few years ago when there were injuries, there was some fear that ‘Will he be able to perform like before? But I think he has really performed better after coming back.’ The former Australian captain said, ‘The best way to always get the right information about these players is to ask (other) players. And when you talk to the opposition batsmen about him (Bumrah), the answer is always ‘No, he is a nightmare!’ You never know what is going to happen.

He said, ‘Some ball will swing, some will seam, he will bowl in swing, he will bowl out swing.’ By taking 15 wickets in the T20 World Cup, Bumrah played an important role in India’s title win and Ponting praised the 30-year-old Bumrah. Ponting said, ‘If I look at his performance in the T20 World Cup – the speed is still the same, nothing has changed in accuracy or what he can give.’

“The skill is the same. He is getting better year after year. When you have the skill and consistency that he has, you are going to have a great player.
