Right to strike: the government shows great flexibility by accepting the proposals of the social partners (Mr. Sekkouri)

Rabat – The government has shown great flexibility by accepting the proposals of the social partners relating to the organic bill establishing the conditions and modalities for exercising the right to strike, said Friday in Rabat, the Minister of ‘Economic Inclusion, Small Business, Employment and Skills, Younes Sekkouri.

In a statement to the press on the sidelines of the government’s consultative meetings with the most representative trade union centers and the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises, Mr. Sekkouri noted that negotiations with social partners in recent months have made it possible to achieve significant progress on a certain number of fundamental questions relating to the draft organic law establishing the conditions and modalities for exercising the right to strike”.

The consultative meetings on this subject will make it possible to examine a certain number of essential subjects relating in particular to the constitutional framework of the bill and to respect for the rights of strikers, emphasizing that the government cannot give its approval to a law which legally hinders the right to strike.

With a view to guaranteeing the right to strike according to reasonable procedures, the minister reported on negotiations of great importance underway with a view to determining the level of minimum service and the manner of exercising a certain number of responsibilities linked to the exercise of the right to strike, ensuring that the government takes into account the opinions of consultative institutions, in particular the Economic, Social and Environmental Council (CESE).

Likewise, Mr. Sekkouri expressed his optimism regarding the conclusion of an agreement on this subject because this organic law is intended to be “a societal law”, recalling in this regard the High Guidelines of HM King Mohammed VI for the holding broad consultations while ensuring the spirit of constructive consensus prevails in order to guarantee the rights of the working class, the interests of employers and the homeland.
