Serious Traffic Accident Closes National Highway 3 in Norway, One Injured

A major traffic incident involving a car and a truck train has resulted in the prolonged closure of National Highway 3 in Norway, with emergency services responding late Tuesday night. Authorities confirmed that one individual sustained serious injuries and required immediate medical attention.

At 23:41 local time, police reported responding to the accident near Storfjellet, south of Alvdal. Initial reports indicated two individuals were involved, according to operations manager Bård Einar Hoft of the Innlandet police district. The extent of the injuries was initially unknown, but updates soon revealed the severity of the situation.

Rescue and Medical Response

By 00:13, emergency responders had successfully extricated the driver of the car from the wreckage. The injured individual was first transported to Tynset Hospital for initial treatment before being airlifted to St. Olav’s Hospital in Trondheim. A police spokesperson stated, “The injuries appear to be serious.”

The driver of the truck train was unharmed and received care at the scene.

Road Closure and Investigation

Authorities announced that National Highway 3 would remain closed “for a long time” following the accident. Task leader Lars Andreas Kvisle, speaking at 01:00 on Wednesday, explained that the truck train was traveling northbound while the passenger car was heading south when the collision occurred. The National Highways Agency’s accident team was dispatched to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Kvisle further stated, “Riksveg 3 will be closed for a long time in the future after a serious traffic accident.”

Fortunately, National Highway 3 was reopened to traffic early Wednesday morning, restoring a vital transportation link. The investigation into the cause of the accident remains ongoing.
