Anantapur: Most of the players selected in the Indian team for the first cricket Test against Bangladesh, including Rishabh Pant, Lokesh Rahul and Shubman Gill, were on Tuesday rested from the second round of the Duleep Trophy starting here on September 12. Akash Deep, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Dhruv Jurel also found a place in the national team on Sunday. All of them have been exempted from playing in the second round. Left-arm fast bowlers Yash Dayal and Sarfaraz Khan, however, have not been dropped from the Duleep Trophy, indicating that they will not be part of the Indian XI against Bangladesh in Chennai. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said in a statement, “The selectors have named Pratham Singh (Railways) as a replacement for Gill, Akshay Wadkar (Vidarbha) as a replacement for Lokesh Rahul and SK Rashid (Andhra) as a replacement for Jurel. Left-arm spinner Shams Mulani will replace Kuldeep in the team while Aaqib Khan (Uttar Pradesh) has been selected in place of Akash Deep.

Mayank Agarwal has been made the captain of the India ‘A’ team in place of Gill. The selectors have chosen Suyash Prabhudesai and Rinku Singh as alternatives to Jaiswal and Pant. Nishant Sandhu has been included in the India ‘D’ team in place of Axar. Fast bowler Tushar Deshpande has been ruled out of the match due to a minor injury. No changes have been made to the India ‘C’ team led by Ruturaj Gaikwad. Playing red ball cricket for the first time since December 2022, Pant impressed in the first match of the Duleep Trophy. Lokesh Rahul and Akash Deep also performed well.
