BOLZANO. The Northern Mountain Basins Development Office will begin construction of a flood protection wall on the Rio Fago streamat the crossroads of the road to San Genesio. Together with the Rivellone river, the Fago river is one of the most important streams that could threaten Bolzano in the event of floods and torrential floodsas can be seen from the Danger Zone Plan (Pzp). The last major flood event occurred on August 8, 1957.
“To continue to guarantee and increase the safety of the neighborhood between via Fago, via Cadorna and Corso Libertà, the Northern Mountain Basins Arrangement Office of the Civil Protection Agency built a filter barrier about two years ago. This project, which will begin in the new year, it is a variant of this containment barrier in the intermediate zones”he summarizes Philip Walderdirector of the Office. From the intersection of the road to San Genesio at the beginning of via Cadorna, up to the bridge that leads to via Rafenstein and Torre Druso, the work team led by Manuel Unterkalmsteiner will begin building a protective wall on January 7, which will be approximately one meter high and 100 meters long. Orographically to the right of the Rio Fago stream, the wall will be cast in concrete and covered with natural porphyry stones. The works will last approximately three months. On the access road to the site, traffic will be regulated by workers if necessary. In all likelihood, it will not be necessary to close the roads.
