Rio has 14 beaches in the west and south zones free for bathing this Carnival weekend, according to the bulletin released by Inea (State Institute for the Environment).

Recommended beaches for locals and tourists are: Grumari (except in the right corner of the beach), Prainha, Pontal de Sernambetiba (except in front of the Sernambetiba channel), Recreio, Barra da Tijuca (except in front of the 2nd Grouping of the Corps of Firefighters and at the Quebra-Mar, in front of Rua Sargento João de Faria), Pepino, São Conrado, Vidigal, Leblon (except in front of Rua Rita Ludolf and in front of Rua Afrânio de Melo Franco), Ipanema, Diabo, Copacabana, Rudder and Red.

Bathers should avoid the following unsuitable beaches: Barra de Guaratiba, Joatinga, Arpoador, Urca, Botafogo and Flamengo.

The Operations Center reported that there are rain forecast for the weekend. On Saturday (18), a cold front in the ocean allows the occurrence of moderate to heavy rain showers, starting in the morning. On Sunday, the weather remains unstable, with a forecast of rain.

Inea also warned that diving should be avoided in the 24 hours after the rains and close to the outlet of rainwater galleries or drainage channels.

Niterói

In Niterói, the beaches favorable for diving are Piratininga, Sossego, Camboinhas, Itaipu and Itacoatiara. It is not advisable to swim in the sea on the beaches of Gragoatá, Boa Viagem, Flechas, Icaraí, São Francisco, Charitas, Jurujuba, Eva and Adão.
