On a morning full of meaning, last April 24, 2024, at the Headquarters of the Riobamba Savings and Credit Cooperative Ltda, we had the honor of speaking with Pedro Morales, General Manager of this institution, who shared reflections on the 39 years of leadership of the cooperative and its commitment to the community.
Pedro Morales recalled the challenges faced in April 1985, when the cooperative was intervened by the Ministry of Social Welfare in the midst of an economic and administrative crisis. At that critical moment, the voices of the members, especially women from local markets, were raised to defend the permanence of the cooperative, arguing its importance as a source of financial support and a symbol of the city.
Since then, the cooperative has worked tirelessly to rebuild trust in the community, encourage savings and support local entrepreneurs. Morales emphasized the importance of integrating young professionals from local universities in this process, who bring freshness and knowledge to the institution.
In celebrating this milestone, Morales also highlighted the commitment of administrative staff in supporting local microenterprises. “We as Cooperativa Riobamba and our administrative staff, who are the credit advisors, are dialoguing, analyzing and investigating the economic and employment reality in Chimborazo. According to that, we have proposed supporting microenterprises,” Morales said.
The 39 years of leadership of the Riobamba Savings and Credit Cooperative Ltda. are a testimony of resilience, commitment and support to the community, guided by the values of cooperation and solidarity that have been the foundation of its success.
