At the Stade de France, it’s disappointment for fans of Mylène Farmer. The singer’s concerts, scheduled for Friday and Saturday evening, have been canceled due to risks and riots after the death of young Nahel, which occurred on Tuesday. The show is not the only one concerned: the government announced, at the end of the afternoon this Friday, “the cancellation of large-scale events” throughout the country.

“By decision of the Interministerial Crisis Unit, the #MyleneFarmer concerts scheduled for Friday 30 and Saturday July 1 at the Stade de France are canceled,” tweeted the Seine-Saint-Denis prefecture this evening. Mylène Farmer’s concert came four years after her residency at La Défense Arena, and ten years after her last tour called “Timeless”.

According to a police source, this cancellation was decided at the request of the elected officials of the department. Urban violence was significant in Seine-Saint-Denis where “almost all the municipalities” were affected, noted a police source to AFP.

Festivals canceled in Paris and Bordeaux

In the process, the city of Paris, announced the cancellation of the third evening of Fnac Live, a music festival which is held on the forecourt of the town hall, in the center of the capital. The artists Selah Sue, Disiz or Ofenbach were expected on stage this Friday evening. “We thank the artists scheduled for this evening and the public for their understanding”, wrote the organizers in a press release.

Île-de-France is not the only one affected. The concerts scheduled for Friday and Saturday in Floirac and Lormont, near Bordeaux, as part of the Hauts de Garonne festival, have also been canceled, reports South West. Several other local festivities will not take place, or will be postponed, such as the Eysines Goes Soul festival, still in the metropolis of Bordeaux.

Other cancellations could occur this Friday evening, or even this weekend, the government having announced the “cancellation of large-scale cultural or sporting events”. The executive fears new evenings and nights of violence, which have shaken many cities in the country since the death on Tuesday of young Nahel, 17, killed by a police officer during a traffic check.
