A man entering the building. A second and a few moments later, everything ignites. “Everything went very quickly, in three minutes”, confides this Saturday morning the mayor (PS) of Saint-Denis, Mathieu Hanotin, after the fire which affected the administrative center of the town during the night.

An entire wing on the ground floor, including the civil status services, was “ravaged” according to the elected official who was on the bridge for most of the night.

Passports had been protected

The facts took place at 12:30 a.m. Quickly, municipal police officers were able to enter the burning building. “They used fire extinguishers to contain and slow the fire, but without succeeding in stopping it”, continues the mayor, who salutes the speed of intervention of the firefighters in stride. “They managed to put out the fire before it spread to the upper floors. But within a few minutes…”

This Saturday, the extent of the damage and the duration of the closure of services remained to be determined. According to Mathieu Hanotin, the town hall of Saint-Denis had however taken “preventive measures” to protect important documents: “No passport has been lost to my knowledge. »

A health center also vandalized

Public buildings in the city of Seine-Saint-Denis had so far been relatively spared the first nights of violence following the death of Nahel on Tuesday morning in Nanterre (Hauts-de-Seine). But during the night, another building was targeted by an intrusion: the municipal health center (CMS) in the Plaine district.

The damage, observed in the morning, was quite minimal there, and concentrated in the patient reception area: a window was broken and Vitale card and bank card readers were stolen and torn off.

The center remained closed this Saturday morning, and around twenty consultations in general medicine were therefore canceled. “It is still detrimental for the patients concerned, who were very understanding, explains the first assistant (DVG) Katy Bontinck. We will be able to reschedule them this Monday, since the center will be able to reopen normally. »
