The International Cricket Council on Tuesday announced the best Test squad for 2022. Ben Stokes captained the XI, which included England teammates Jonny Bairstow and James Anderson. Pakistan’s star batsman Babar Azam has also been included in the squad. Wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant, who is recovering from injuries sustained in a serious car accident two days before the New Year, is the only Indian selected in the 2022 ICC Men’s Test squad. The 25-year-old has amassed 680 runs from 12 innings at an average of 61.81 and a strike rate of 90.90. Last year he scored two hundreds and four fifties.
Rishabh Pant has hit 21 sixes in Tests in 2022 and has also excelled at wicket-keeping. Has six stumpings and 23 catches. England captain Ben Stokes, who changed many matches with his aggressive batting, has been appointed as the captain of the Test XI. The ICC Test XI squad includes four Australian players including Pat Cummins, South Africa’s Kakiso Rabada and Anderson. Pakistan captain Babar Azam and West Indies captain Craig Brathwaite are in the ICC squad.

Middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer and young pacer Mohammad Siraj are the only two Indians named in Pakistan’s Babar Azam-led ICC ODI squad. In 2022, Iyer anchored India’s star-studded batting line-up in the 50-overs. Playing mostly at number 4, Iyer scored 724 runs at a blistering pace of 91.52 at an average of 55.69 in 17 matches during the calendar year. It includes one hundred and six fifties. He has confirmed his place in India’s ODI squad ahead of the World Cup in October-November. Siraj has been one of the most improved bowlers in white-ball cricket. He has taken 24 wickets in 15 ODIs and is the main bowler of the Indian team.
