Rishi Sunak thanked Narendra Modi for his words; Modi recalled the Free Trade Agreement in the discussion

New Delhi: UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Sunak said that he was grateful for Modi’s congratulations after taking over as Prime Minister of Britain. Rishi Sunak said that he is looking forward to the achievements of both the countries in the coming years.

“Thanks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his kind words on his new role. The UK and India have a lot of mutual interests. “I am extremely excited about what our two great democracies can achieve in the coming months and years as our country further strengthens our security, defense and economic partnership,” Sunak tweeted.

Prime Minister Modi tweeted that he had spoken to Rishi Sunak and congratulated him on being appointed as the new Prime Minister of Britain. Modi also said that the two will work together to further strengthen the comprehensive and strategic partnership.

“Today Rishi was able to talk to Sunak. Very happy with that. He was congratulated on taking over as Prime Minister of the UK. Both sides will work together to further strengthen the partnership.” Prime Minister Modi tweeted that the implementation of a comprehensive and balanced free trade agreement was also discussed. Discussions on India entering into a free trade agreement with Britain started last January. But it was prolonged due to various reasons. It is in this context that Modi mentioned this while congratulating Rishi Sunak.

Rishi Sunak was announced as the UK Prime Minister on Tuesday. He is the fifth Conservative Party leader to become Prime Minister in the UK in the last 6 years. Rishi Sunak is also the first Indian-origin to take charge as British Prime Minister.
