The dispute over renewal of licenses and dues between the government and LDI operators has turned serious, threatening to affect telecom services in the country. The Pakistan Telecom Authority issued a written warning to the IT Ministry.

According to the PTA document, 50 percent mobile traffic may be affected if LDI licenses are not renewed. Mobile towers will stop working. Internet traffic will also decrease by 10 percent. It is feared that 40 percent of bank ATMs in the country will be closed, while satellite services will also be affected.

Due to non-renewal of licenses of LDI companies, the service will have to be shifted to other operators, which may also affect global mobile and internet connectivity. Communication links of government offices in remote areas will also be cut off. A total of 76 billion rupees are owed by the 10 LDI companies, the companies have to pay this amount to the government in the form of APC and USF.
