It’s a somewhat unusual product recall that is launched this Wednesday. The authorities are asking to bring back to the store a model of … whoopee cushion from the Sud trading company brand. If the information can make you smile, the risk of toxicity is real, especially since the object can particularly end up in the hands of children. It was also sold in many stores.

Responding to the name of “mega whoopee cushion”, this object was sold between January 1, 2021 and January 17, 2023. The brands Foir’Fouille, Centrakor, Distriland, Boum bazar, Crazy jokes, Maison deffes, Jour de fêtes, Inter parties, Party relays, The art of the party, the Hangar, Bazaar land, Celebrating & entertaining and Business market are concerned.

The problem stems from the presence of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon at high level. These are natural constituents of coal and oil. According to ANSES, PAHs are products resulting from any incomplete combustion process, both domestic (vehicle exhaust, individual heating, cigarette smoke, grilled and/or smoked food, etc.) and industrial (smoke from incineration, steel industry, oil refinery, thermal power station, bitumen fumes, etc.). This can cause poisoning.

Once brought back to the store, the returned products will be “reimbursed on presentation of the proof of purchase or, failing that, on presentation of the packaging of the product allowing it to be identified”. If this is not possible, it is a question of being careful not to use them and to throw them away well wrapped.
