The work of the 25th edition of the Moulay Ali Chérif University, marked by the participation of researchers, academics and historiographers, ended on Saturday in Rissani, after two days of constructive exchanges around the theme “Relationships international under the reign of the Alawite dynasty: period of Sultan Moulay Ismail”.

The closing ceremony of this edition, organized under the High Patronage of HM King Mohammed VI, was held in the presence of the Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication, Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid, the governor of the province of Midelt , Mustapha Ennouhi, and the president of the Council of the Drâa-Tafilalet region, Hro Abrou.

Speaking on this occasion, the historiographer of the Kingdom and president of the scientific committee of the Moulay Ali Chérif University, Abdelhak El Mrini, expressed his thanks to the professors who enriched this edition with their valuable contributions, as well as to all those who contributed to the success of this event.

In this regard, he welcomed the involvement of executives from the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication, local and regional authorities, elected officials, as well as the various security bodies and the media.

Mr. El Mrini also welcomed the role assumed by the Moulay Ali Chérif University in serving the glorious historical heritage of the Kingdom, in particular by popularizing it among the country’s younger generations.

The closing of this 25th edition of the Moulay Ali Chérif University was preceded by a conference during which the participants focused on Morocco’s international relations under the reign of Sultan Moulay Ismail, highlighting historical and diplomatic aspects. , economic and military of this period.

Mohamed El Amrani, professor of higher education at the University of Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah-Fez, discussed the relations between Morocco and Holland at the time of Sultan Moulay Ismail, in the light of several documents from the National Archives of the Countries Down in The Hague.

Mr. El Amrani focused, on this subject, on the letters sent by Sultan Moulay Ismail and his ministers to the officials of Holland, a country which at the time was called the Dutch Republic of the Seven United States, specifying that these correspondences related to questions of peace, security, trade or the exchange of prisoners.

He noted that relations between Morocco and the Netherlands, which were linked by a peace and trade agreement, have experienced periods of stability and others of tension, highlighting the ability of Sultan Moulay Ismail to manage , in fine diplomatism, these bilateral relations in both conditions.

For his part, Abdelillah Laghzaoui, history researcher, presented a presentation under the theme “Ambassador Abdellah Benaïcha, pioneer of Moroccan diplomacy during the time of Sultan Moulay Ismail”.

Mr. Maghzaoui highlighted the important role played by this ambassador of Sultan Moulay Ismail to Louis XIV in Morocco’s international relations during this period of the Kingdom’s history, especially on the diplomatic and military levels.

Mohamed Bouzengad, professor of higher education at the Faculty of Humanities and Sciences-Agadir, highlighted the African depth of Morocco under the reign of the Alaouite dynasty, particularly on human, cultural and economic levels.

In this regard, he noted the role of the numerous expeditions led by Sultan Moulay Ismail in sub-Saharan Africa in strengthening the Kingdom’s attachment to its African depth.

Another conference, organized Friday as part of the 25th edition of Moulay Ali Chérif University, was an opportunity to highlight several facets of Morocco’s relations with the Ottomans during the period of Sultan Moulay Ismail.

Researchers, academics and historiographers have returned to several episodes in the history of Morocco and the Ottoman Empire, two powers which maintained relations marked by ups and downs during the 57 years of reign of Sultan Moulay Ismail during from the 17th century.
