The RIVM health institute asks the healthcare sector to be alert to signs that may indicate Ebola in people who have been to Uganda. In some regions that attract tourists there is an Ebola outbreak. The travelers themselves should also pay attention, according to the RIVM. The chance that people have contracted the disease is considered small for the time being.

On September 20, it was announced that there is an Ebola outbreak in Uganda. At least nineteen people have now died from the disease, but probably more.

People became infected in the districts of Mubende, Kyegegwa, Kasanda, Kagadi and Bunyangabu, which is popular with tourists. “Everyone traveling to these areas is strongly advised not to eat bushmeat, not to touch animals and to avoid contact with (possible) patients or deceased persons,” says the RIVM.

The disease often starts with fever, headache and muscle aches, but can also lead to bleeding in the body.
