According to a statement from the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication, this meeting was devoted to the presentation of the negotiation strategy with the major international media companies, namely Meta (Facebook, Instagram), Google and Amazon, to reach agreements in favor of the interests of the Arab states hosting the services of these companies.

This meeting resulted in the adoption of several recommendations that will be implemented gradually, within the framework of the negotiation process, while intensifying the meetings of this group to accelerate the resolution of outstanding issues.

Morocco’s participation in this process is motivated by the strategy of the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication, aimed at establishing a tax framework for these companies operating in Morocco.

This is to generate additional resources, particularly for the media sector, capable of strengthening its development and competitiveness in a constantly changing global digital environment.

The implementation of this framework also aims to regulate digital content, by combating fake news and inappropriate content published on these platforms, notably Google and Facebook.

During this meeting, Morocco called for accelerating the negotiation process with major national media institutions, to achieve the expected objectives in the short and medium terms.

The Arab League Group tasked with conducting negotiations with major international media and digital companies includes senior media experts from several Arab countries, as well as the media and communications sector and the Arab States Broadcasting Union.
