BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed urged to immediately return Chhatra Dal leader Atiqur Rahman Russell to his parents.
He said that he was picked up as a detective on Monday, July 1. Even after 8 days, he has not been returned to his family or handed over to the court. As a result, everyone in the family, parents, relatives and party leaders are in deep anxiety. The desire of parents cannot be described in words. Rizvi claimed that he was picked up by the law enforcement agencies and that he is in intelligence custody.
He said these things in an emergency press conference at BNP’s central office in Nayapaltan of the capital on Tuesday (July 9).
Mentioning this incident as shocking and poignant, the senior BNP leader said, such youths are being rejected – because they speak for people, speak for democracy, raise slogans for democracy. Youths like Atiqur Rahman Russell are being targeted and disappeared by the government using the state machinery as a tool of brutal repression to silence their slogans.
He further said that the country is passing through a suffocating situation. People’s rights have been taken away one by one by the occupying government. People are deprived of rights, so that people cannot exercise the rights that are recognized in democracy, the state power has been created in such a way that Sheikh Hasina can fulfill her wishes. No one can speak against him in this Bangladesh. No one can march against him. No one can hold an assembly in this country. Even after tearing down the constitution of Bangladesh, the rights of democracy are being suppressed in various ways by the government machinery. This oppression is demonic, this oppression is cruel, this oppression is bloody.
Rizvi said, as time goes on, one after another, the government’s scandals are coming out. Those whom Sheikh Hasina has used to suppress the opposition have looted the wealth of the people of this country and smuggled money abroad and have owned a lot of wealth within the country as well. Nawabs did not have so much wealth. Due to looting and corruption, the financial system of the country has collapsed, the exchequer has become empty. The bank does not have the necessary money to run the country for three months. Interest has been waived for those who have defaulted on the amount of one lakh ninety two thousand crore rupees. Those who looted and smuggled money are all people close to the rulers.
