The Rio de Janeiro police are investigating the details of the deaths of three doctors in Barra da Tijuca and also the execution of the drug traffickers who allegedly carried out the attack by mistake. An IML report revealed that, of 33 shots fired at the doctors, 19 hit them. The main line of investigation is that the doctors were killed by mistake; they reportedly confused orthopedist Perseu Ribeiro Almeida, 33, with militiaman Tailon Pereira Barbosa. Along with him, Marcos de Andrade Corsato, 62, and Diego Ralf Bomfim – brother of federal deputy Sâmia Bomfim – aged 35, were also shot. Daniel Proença, 32, the only survivor of the attack, was hit by 14 shots. He underwent surgery and is in stable health.
