Villagers staged a road blockade near the sand dune demanding drinking water.
Motor repair
More than 50 families live on Kondal Riverside Street near Manalmedu in Mayiladuthurai District. A mini drinking trough was set up there for their drinking needs. This made drinking water available to the public. In this condition the motor of this mini drinking trough broke down last 8 months ago.
Following this, the public repeatedly demanded that the motor be repaired and that drinking water be provided to them. But the public is concerned that no action has been taken.
Road block
Due to motor malfunction, the public has to travel several kilometers for drinking water. At this point the public on Kondal Riverside Street suddenly got involved in a road blockade with pedestrians at Kondal Mall, urging them to repair the motor and provide them with drinking water again.
Manalmedu police rushed to the spot and held talks with the villagers involved in the road blockade. The police then informed the concerned authorities and assured that action would be taken. The roadblock was dropped.
Traffic was disrupted for an hour on the Manalmedu-Mayiladuthurai road due to the stir.
