Representatives of the business sector of the state of Puebla reported that the recent blockades on the highways Mexico-Puebla y North Arc generated losses for the local economy totaling 1,214 million pesos.

The trade, services and tourism sector also reported a significant impact, with losses estimated at 354 million pesos.

In particular, restaurateurs were hit hard, facing not only the cancellation of events, but also increased operating costs and the waste of inputs.

Representatives of the union pointed out that small restaurants have reported daily losses ranging from 5 thousand and 15 thousand pesos; medium-sized restaurants between 20 and 50 thousand pesos; and large establishments have seen losses ranging from 60 thousand to 165 thousand pesos daily.

In Puebla, where it is estimated that there are around 37 thousand restaurants, These figures reflect a hit a sector. The businessmen urgently called on the authorities to take measures to prevent future blockades and guarantee the continuity of economic activities in the state.

At a press conference, Hector Alberto Sanchez Morales, President of the Puebla Business Coordinating Council, reiterated to federal and state authorities to guarantee the free transit of people and goods on both federal highways, which represent the immediate connection of Puebla with the capital and the center of the country with the Gulf of Mexico and the southeast of the country.
