Los Angeles police initiated a homicide investigation after discovering the bodies at the Reiner residence in the 200 block of Chadbourne Avenue.According to law enforcement sources, a family member is currently being interviewed in connection with the deaths.Investigators have confirmed ther was no sign of forced entry into the home, and initial findings suggest the Reiners sustained injuries consistent with stabbing.

At a news conference Sunday night, LAPD Deputy Chief Alan Hamilton emphasized the ongoing nature of the investigation. “At this time, the Los Angeles Police Department is not seeking anyone as a suspect or as a person of interest… and we will not be doing that until we conduct our investigation and move forward,” Hamilton stated. He confirmed that numerous family members will be interviewed,but stressed that “no one has been detained; no one is being questioned as a suspect.” The individual who initially reported the incident was present at the house, though their identity has not been released.

Rob Reiner enjoyed a five-decade-long career in Hollywood, first gaining prominence as Michael “Meathead” Stivic on the iconic sitcom “All in the Family” from 1971 to 1979, alongside Carroll O’Connor. Chadbourne Avenue was closed to the public, with police cars stationed at both ends and a helicopter circling overhead.Officers briefly spoke with a young man who left the scene around 7:30 p.m. in a white Tesla, but he declined to comment to the media.

Councilmember Traci park,representing the Westside district including Brentwood,stated that the LAPD had increased patrols in the neighborhood “out of an abundance of caution.” She expressed “profound concern and sadness at the news coming out of Brentwood,” adding that her office is in close contact with the police department.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass expressed her heartbreak,acknowledging Rob Reiner’s “contributions [that] reverberate throughout American culture and society.” Governor gavin Newsom and First Partner Jennifer Siebel newsom remembered Reiner as a “renowned director, writer, and activist” and his wife as an “accomplished producer and photographer,” praising his “boundless empathy” and positive impact on California.
