Veteran Stock Car Driver Robbie Brewer Dies After On-Track Medical Emergency
A beloved figure in North Carolina short-track racing,Robbie Brewer,passed away following a medical incident during a race at Bowman Gray Stadium in Winston-Salem.
Robbie Brewer, 53, a veteran of teh local racing scene, tragically died after his car collided head-on with a wall during a 20-lap Sportsman Division race on Saturday. The incident occurred on the quarter-mile track at Bowman Gray Stadium, a historic venue that also hosted a preseason NASCAR Cup Series exhibition event earlier this year in February.
track officials responded immediately, utilizing specialized equipment to remove Brewer from the vehicle. He was then transported to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist hospital,were he was later pronounced dead,according to reports from the Winston-Salem Journal.
“We are saddened by the passing of Robbie Brewer after he was transported to an area medical facility following an on-track medical incident,” a track statement released sunday read. “Robbie was a talented and passionate racer, and a highly respected competitor among his peers. Our thoughts and prayers are with Robbie’s family and friends at this time.”

Brewer’s career at bowman Gray spanned over three decades, beginning with his first start in 1990.He accumulated nearly 260 starts in the Sportsman Division, achieving a notable milestone by winning the points championship in 2011. His dedication and skill earned him a reputation as a formidable racer within the local community.
Fellow driver brad Lewis, whose shop is located near Brewer’s home, described the late racer as a mentor and close friend. “He was like a big brother to me even though we were not that far apart in age,” Lewis said. “He was a wheelman thru and through. I’m not only going to honor him the rest of the season but for provided that we race out there. He’ll be missed.”
