Robbie Keane leads Maccabi Tel Aviv to an excellent season, while in the background voices are heard in Ireland to appoint him as coach. However, according to a new report in one of the local media, it seems that as of now, his candidacy is not on the agenda.

In a report by the “Irish Times” they identified five final candidates for the position of coach to replace Stephen Kenny and Keane was not included among them. However, the Maccabi Tel Aviv coach is being talked about as someone who will be able to put together a successful training team in the future together with another former striker – Damian Duff, who played together with Keane in the Irish national team.

“He is enjoying a great debut season at Maccabi Tel Aviv, which is at the top of the table in the Israeli league, playing in the round of 16 of the Conference League and this week he will be able to win his first title in the Toto Cup final,” the media said. “Maybe next time.”

Who is among the candidates? Lee Carsley, who won with the England under-21 team in the last Euro, in which they beat Israel 0:3 in the semi-finals; Chris Hewton, who coaches the Ghana national team and previously coached Tomer Hamed and Biram Kiel in Brighton; Neil Lennon, who coached a number of Israeli players at Celtic; Chris Coleman, who coached the Wales team in the past and Anthony Barry, one of Thomas Tuchel’s assistant coaches at Bayern Munich.
