Robbie Williams Breaks Beatles’ UK No.1 Album Record

LONDON, January 18, 2026 – Robbie Williams has rewritten the record books, scoring his 16th UK No. 1 album and surpassing the Beatles’ longstanding tally to become the all-time chart record holder. The singer’s latest release, Britpop, debuted at the top of the charts, cementing his place in music history.

A Britpop Blast From the Past

Robbie Williams’ “Britpop” album has broken a decades-old record, sparking debate about musical legacies.

  • Williams’ Britpop album reached No. 1 in it’s first week of release.
  • This achievement surpasses the Beatles’ previous record of 15 No. 1 albums.
  • Williams strategically adjusted the album’s release date to avoid competition with Taylor Swift.
  • The album is a homage to the Britpop guitar music of the mid-1990s.

Britpop, a nostalgic nod to the “lairy and zeitgeist-setting guitar music” of the mid-1990s, promptly resonated with fans. All but one of Williams’ studio albums have now claimed the top spot – the exception being 2009’s Reality Killed the Video Star, which was edged out by the boy band JLS. Adding to his chart dominance are three greatest hits compilations and the soundtrack to the biopic Better Man. Notably, two additional No. 1 albums from his time with Take That are not included in this current tally.

The Rolling Stones and Taylor Swift each boast 14 No. 1 albums, while Elvis Presley has 13, and Bruce Springsteen and Madonna have 12 apiece. Presley remains the record-holder for UK No. 1 singles, with an notable 21, while Williams has secured seven, most recently with Candy in 2012.

williams’ latest success came at the expense of Olivia Dean, whose album The Art of Loving spent 17 weeks in the top five, and US pop singer Madison Beer, whose album Locket debuted at No. 3.

on the singles chart, British rapper Dave earned his fourth No. 1 with his collaboration with tems, “Raindance.”
