One of the strikers at the 2018 World Cup, Roberto Firmino took to social media to share his new vocation at the age of 32. The Al-Ahli Saudi FC player announced that he is now a priest at an evangelical church in Maceió, his hometown. The dedication also involved his wife, Roberta Pereira.

The consecration took place during an exceptional commemorative service at Manah Church, a congregation of which Firmino is one of the founders. The attacker used these recordings to talk about how faith has changed him in a visceral way.

In his report, the 32-year-old striker revealed that although he never wanted to open a church, the desire to share love ruled his heart and things happened.

“Three years of Manah Church. What a memorable and unforgettable night. The church was born in the heart of God and we are very grateful for the privilege of witnessing up all that the Lord has done. The Bible says in Ephesians 3:20 “Now to him who is able to do infinitely more than all that we ask or think, according to his power that works within us,” It is all about his power, since in us there is no merit at all whatever our goal was to open a church or to have an ecclesiastical position, God knows that well.

Since our encounter with Christ, longing has been burning in our hearts… for people to know about this love that reached us. Now we have another desire and responsibility… To be Pastors according to God’s heart and who cooperate with the Kingdom. We are completely ashamed today when we see the extent of God’s mercy towards us. He chooses the most unlikely! Thank you, Jesus. Many thanks to Jairo and Keila for pushing us forward and for believing in us.”
