A comedy cannot be just a succession of jokes, actors with a greater or lesser willingness to be funny, or a mess of crosses and surprises commonly known as a tangle. All of them are almost always necessary elements, especially if you have opted for a touch of vaudeville. And all this is held or staggered in the text. For this reason, because the text fails, this piece lives between tremors, between a lot of merriment and a comedy that is more forced than real.

She is funny? Well yes, although that will depend on tastes, but in general it has elements to entertain if we get into that world in which the actors run like headless chickens (read with Toshack’s accent when he described his clueless players running around without rhyme or they are for green).

An Oscar for Oscar

Author: Mario Hernandez.

Production: Txalo, The Mandanga.

Performers: Jon Plazaola, Gorka Aguinagalde, Rebecca Room, Maria Guil.

Address: Mario Hernandez.

Duration: One hour and fifty minutes.

Location: Victoria Eugenia Theatre.

Date: 8-23-2023.

‘An Oscar for Oscar’ starts from a good idea: to bring together in a kind of Marx Brothers cabin a young director nominated for the Oscar for best short film, a Minister of Culture, the Minister of Finance and a paying companion for the nominee. Once the mess is served, the author gets little use out of it and, since he is also the director, he doesn’t fix it on that side either. With some actors pulling to the excess and unimaginative situations, the function is lengthened in its duration. Perhaps with a few minutes less he could go back to the essentials.

The performers keep the comedy afloat, with the comedy of Aguinagalde pulling, albeit by beating, a show suitable for having an entertaining time very much to the taste of summer. yes
